New ED&I Strategy Launches: Creating a workplace where everyone can thrive

UKNNL has launched its new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy for 2024-2027, titled “ED&I: The Power of Change.” The strategy demonstrates our commitment to creating a workplace culture where everyone can thrive with a sense of belonging.

Our vision, purpose and strategy share one crucial element: our people. When we say we want nuclear science to benefit society, we mean both helping solve some of the world’s biggest challenges and doing good business well.

Building on Success

The new strategy builds upon significant achievements from our previous approach, including:

– Reducing our gender pay gap to below the national average

– Improving women’s representation by 5% over five years

– Co-founding Racial Equality in Nuclear (REiN), which earned recognition at the British Diversity Awards

– Achieving 97% completion rate in ED&I data collection

– Implementing industry-leading family-focused policies

– Creating and improving inclusive spaces across our sites

– Gaining National Equality Standard accreditation

Looking Forward

The strategy outlines a comprehensive three-year plan structured around key workstreams aligned to the employee lifecycle:

– Attraction: Ensuring inclusive attraction and recruitment practices

– Belonging: Creating a supportive workplace culture

– Career Support: Enabling fair progression for all

– Data Analysis: Measuring progress and impact

Our ED&I Steering Board, comprising representatives from across the business including our Executive team, site leadership, technical capabilities, and trade unions, will continue to govern the programme.

“This strategy represents more than just good intentions – it’s about dedicated action and evidence-based approaches to create meaningful change. Just as we apply rigour and expertise to our scientific endeavours, we’re taking a systematic approach to building an inclusive workplace where diverse talent can flourish. Our vision, purpose and strategy have one thing in common: empowering our people to support each other.”
