UKNNL Announces New Chief Human Resources Officer

United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) has announced the appointment of Rebecca Jenkins as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), effective from 1 February 2025.

Rebecca will join UKNNL’s Executive Leadership Team, bringing a track record of over six years of experience within the organisation and extensive expertise in human resources management across the defence and nuclear sectors.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Rebecca has held senior positions at leading organisations including PA Consulting, Rolls Royce and BAE Systems. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated excellence in developing effective people strategies and transforming HR operations.

During her time at UKNNL, Rebecca has been instrumental in transforming the organisation’s HR operations and strengthening relationships with Trade Unions and sector partners. Her work has particularly focused on developing leading policies and processes, and championing skills to support growth across the nuclear sector.

Following her appointment, Rebecca said:

“I am excited to be taking this position at such an exciting time for UKNNL. A thriving and ambitious workforce is essential to delivering our mission to deliver outcomes for UK Government and champion skills to support. I welcome the opportunity to build on the great work we have already delivered in this space and deliver the next chapter in UKNNL’s people story”

Professor Paul Howarth, Chief Executive Officer at UKNNL, said:

“I am pleased to welcome Rebecca to our Executive Leadership Team. Her deep understanding of our organisation and extensive experience will be invaluable as we work towards our ambition of being a leading employer in the sector. Following the recent Strategic Review conducted by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, to achieve our mission we must champion and nurture advanced nuclear skills. A strong HR function is key to success here, and Rebecca will play a pivotal role.”

The appointment follows Clare Barlow’s decision to retire in Spring 2025.

Clare commented:

“I am delighted that Rebecca will join the UKNNL Executive Leadership Team. She has already played an instrumental role in supporting change and positioning UKNNL as a leading employer in the sector. I know she will bring the authentic and passionate leadership required to continue that journey.”
