UKNNL partners with Become charity to support care-experienced young people
United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) and the charity Become will be working together to support care-experienced young people in accessing exciting career opportunities.
Through its Propel programme, Become provides vulnerable young people with the vital support they need to access work or education. One young person they supported had never been employed before and felt overwhelmed by applications and interviews. Through one-to-one support, they built confidence, improved their CV, practiced interview skills, and successfully secured their first job as a Veterinary Care Assistant.
Together, UKNNL and Become will highlight career opportunities in the nuclear industry and give similar support for young people to access them.
Mary Erlund, ED&I Manager at UKNNL said:
“We are proud to support Become who are championing an often-overlooked area of inclusion by delivering a range of important services. By working together, we will highlight early career opportunities across the nuclear sector working to make our sector more accessible. Our people will be able to ‘give back’ by sharing the skills and knowledge they have gained in their careers so far; and we will gain greater insight into the challenges that these young people face and the strengths they bring.”
Katharine Sacks-Jones, CEO of Become said:
“We are incredibly grateful to be partnering with UKNNL over the next year. Their support means Become can be there for more care-experienced children and young people. I want to personally thank everyone at UKNNL for their dedication, commitment, and time. Standing together, we can make a real difference to care-experienced young people’s lives.”
