Job Description for Senior Materials Assessor:

Safely deliver high quality materials assessment and plant inspection, condition monitoring and development support to chemical process and decommissioning plant on the Sellafield site.
Main Responsibilities for Senior Materials Assessor:
- Carry out materials assessments/plant inspections/condition assessments using a variety of visual and metallurgical tools and techniques.
- Area and equipment ownership including all associated documentation and arranging engineers’ visits for calibration and maintenance.
- Task Supervision within UKNNL facilities and Competent Supervisor for activities on the wider Sellafield site.
- Produce quality certification/technical reports of assessments together with relevant conclusions and recommendations where appropriate.
- Help develop proposals for materials assessment and corrosion monitoring techniques and tooling to access difficult/harsh environments to address customer requirements and challenges.
- Provide expert advice on materials, tools and techniques, condition monitoring and lifetime assessment.
Essential Criteria for Senior Materials Assessor:
- A degree in a materials science, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering or HND/HNC with significant experience.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude to safety and security and other EHSS&Q requirements.
- Experience of preparation of all safety and management documentation to enable and maintain safe operations.
- Ability to understand and solve customer related technical issues and challenges with a proactive and flexible approach to customer support and project delivery to ensure requirements and expectations are met and exceeded.
- Radiation Protection Supervisor for Radiation Generators (RPS(RG) to be able to use the Positive Materials Identification (PMI) equipment.
- Experience in preparation of PUWER and COSHH assessments.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven experience of writing high quality technical reports capturing results and recommendations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Senior Materials Assessor:
- A PhD in a relevant materials science or engineering based discipline.
- A good understanding of the UKNNL business, its role in the Nuclear Industry and the challenges it is likely to face in the future.
- Some existing knowledge of the Sellafield site, waste treatment and decommissioning operations.
