Job Description for Technical Delivery Lead:
An opportunity has become available within the Measurement and Analysis (M&A) capability for a Technical Delivery Lead.
The role will require technical leadership of the M&A-CL capability and technical delivery of internal and external customer programmes to time, cost, quality and safety requirements. The role will also require the implementation of UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation, including the expansion and maintenance as and when required. The successful candidate will train and technically mentor junior staff while holding the task supervisor role to ensure compliance to all UKNNL procedures.
The role holder will be a technical lead for measurement and analysis, especially in the areas of mass spectrometry and radiometrics, validation, and the deployment of techniques into production as and when required. The role involves supporting the programmes of work and ensuring that the technical content and quality of the capabilities technical solutions meets both UKNNL and customer expectations.
As a Technical Delivery Lead the candidate will require interaction with a range of internal and external customers including engineers, external manufacturers and accreditation bodies. The successful candidate should have experience in prescribing suitable analytical methods and technologies for measurement and analysis. The role will also include ensuring the capability is fit for the future, ensuring techniques and instrumentation will remain viable for continued delivery.
Main Responsibilities for Technical Delivery Lead:
- Provide technical leadership in the planning and implementation of all analytical work.
- Train and develop other team members, and mentor junior staff members.
- Act as task supervisor to the team ensuring compliance with all UKNNL procedures.
- Pivotal in implementing, maintaining and expanding UKAS accreditation to ISO 17025 within the team.
- Collaborative working across M&A and with partner and customer organisations.
- Aid in the development of experimental work packages for the team; working closely with the senior technical leads, project manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Work alongside project/programme managers and customers to ensure that work is delivered to time, cost, quality and safety requirements.
- Support the Capability Manager in planning for the development of the technical capability, including knowledge, skills and facilities.
- Keep abreast of developments in their own field, apply them to projects and disseminate to the wider UKNNL technical community.
- This role will require the individual to promote and demonstrate UKNNL leadership values and behaviours.
Essential Criteria for Technical Delivery Lead:
- Degree in Chemistry/relevant discipline with at least five years’ experience in measurement and analytical techniques.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to communicate with the wider technical team, including instrument suppliers/experts from other companies.
- Experience of Technical Working Groups, attending workshops, and presenting at conferences.
- Appreciation of the need to balance R&D objectives with customer requirements and commercial opportunities.
- Experience of leading technical development projects.
- Collect, analyse, interpret experimental data, experimental write-up and data reporting.
- The ability to develop relationships through technical interactions with M&A customers in order to develop and grow the capability.
- Technically mentoring experienced staff, graduates and apprentices to support their technical career development under the guidance of the Capability Manger.
- Evidence of defining and upholding exemplary standards in safety and quality.
- Chartered Chemist Royal Society of Chemistry.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Technical Delivery Lead:
- Track record of successfully implementing work programmes with key customers and ensuring delivery.
- Understanding of national and international analytical developments and requirements.
