Job Description for Account Director - Defence and Generation:

You will work in partnership with colleagues across UKNNL and the wider sector to enable the laboratory to demonstrate Leadership through the realisation of opportunities to provide specialist technical services and support to meet the requirements of this complex and challenging field.

Accountable to the Vice President – Defence and Generation and a member of the Customer Experience directorate you will work collaboratively across UKNNL to advance our strategic ambitions. This will include working closely with the multidisciplinary team responsible for the development and implementation of our clean energy strategy.

Your focus will be on delivering the EdF contract (Supply of Engineering support services) and related contracts to keep our AGR reactor fleet providing clean energy to their end of life (currently 2030 with aspiration to extend to 2032). The role also covers developing services for Sizewell B to increase our post irradiation examination services to cover light water reactors which are the preferred design of the new reactors being constructed in the UK. In addition to work at Windscale there is analytical service provision through the Preston Lab.

The other area this position covers is support to the Atomic Weapons Establishment where we have a collaboration and enabling agreement covering a wide range of services from waste and residue processing to new chemical plant development and design.

The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Sellafield or Risley, Preston.

Main Responsibilities for Account Director - Defence and Generation:

  • EHSS&Q Accountability
    • Duty of care for all staff identified.
  • Growth Accountability
    • Generate new business through a relationship-based sales approach.
    • Develop business case(s) to support internal investment / leverage.
    • Maintain pipeline of opportunities for account area.
    • Populate sales funnel.
  • Financial Accountability
    • Manage P&L for account area.
    • Submit bids in line with governance.
    • Pricing bids.
    • Management of growth budget.
    • Oversight of commercial negotiations and balance of risk profile vs price.
  • Delivery to Customer Accountability
    • Liaise between government customers and cross functional internal teams to ensure the timely and successful delivery of solutions according to customer needs.
    • Be the escalation point for customer issues.
  • Customer Relationship Accountability
    • Nurture operational customer accounts to develop long term relationships.
    • Proactively use of the End-to-End Sales approach.
    • Sharing of customer intelligence with relevant internal teams.
  • Leadership Accountability
    • Implement cultural and business strategies associated with their account.
    • Demonstrate alignment of activities to UKNNL Values.

Essential Criteria for Account Director - Defence and Generation:

  • Track record in winning and growing customer business.
  • Track record of nurturing customer relationships internally and externally.
  • Proven account management experience.
  • Experience of developing strategies for commercial growth.
  • Customer relationship management at senior operational level.
  • Successful preparation and delivery of business cases.Ability to Influence senior stakeholders.
  • British citizen as defined in the British Nationality Act 1981 (British Nationality Act 1981 (legislation.gov.uk)). Please note if you hold a dual nationality, of which one nationality is British, you may still be considered but this is dependent on your dual nationality.
  • Ability to obtain DV level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial, criminal record checks, interview plus 10 years of UK residency).
