Job Description for Senior Project Manager:

Your project management skills and attention to detail will enable industry-leading scientists, engineers and analysts to work together to deliver unique projects using cutting edge technology. It’s a challenging role but it’s an opportunity to grow, adapt and develop new skills in a fast-moving area.
This is a Senior Project Manager position which will be responsible for the safe delivery of significant projects for the H&NM, Space & S&T team – as such the individual is expected to have an excellent track record of delivering complex innovative Research and Development based projects over the years. As a Senior Project Manager, the individual will have line management responsibilities for a 4-6 member team of project managers and therefore will need to demonstrate experience of team management. There is an expectation that the candidate will have sufficient experience and delivery track record to provide coaching and mentoring of team members.
Another key element of this is role is to be the Alliance Manager for the BicycleTX project so a good understanding of this contract is required.
The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley or Workington.
Main Responsibilities for Senior Project Manager:
- Provide line management to direct reports and leadership, coaching and mentoring across the individuals within their reporting structure.
- Work with the PMA senior management to ensure forward resourcing requirements can be met through recruitment or contract supply.
- Manage projects of medium risk and complexity (ie budgets £1M - £10M+; potential >£500k risk on budget; supply chain involved or with capital components to the work).
- To maximise revenue and profitability of projects.
- Co-ordination of proposal development and submission for endorsement.
- Management of project risks and risk mitigation.
- Provision of project forecast financial out turn.
- Gathering customer feedback and sharing and implementation of learning from experience (LFE).
- Ensuring adequate Health Safety & Security (HS&S) supervision is in place at all times in all locations where work is being carried out.
- Managing change control within the project.
- Financial authority as defined by delegated powers.
- Data evaluation and analysis and action upon the information.
Essential Criteria for Senior Project Manager:
- Knowledge of working with BicycleTX due to the element of the role of Alliance Manager for Bicycle projects in the environmental space industry and Health & Nuclear Medicine environmental particular.
- Project Management professional qualification (e.g. APMP, Diploma APM, PMQ IPMA Level D).
- IOSH Qualification (Managing Safely)Experience in a Project / Programme Management capacity.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Senior Project Manager:
- Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and delivering medium-large scale / complex projects, in a Senior Project Management capacity.
- Demonstrable knowledge of project delivery processes; life cycle management methodologies, and value adding tools, processes and practices.
- Demonstrable experience of team leadership / mentoring / coaching.
- The Selection, development and management of teams. Identifying, addressing and resolving differences between individuals and/or interest groups.
- Empowering and inspiring others to deliver successful projects.
- Agreeing contracts for the provision of goods and/or services, monitoring compliance and managing variances.
- Maintaining governance arrangements for the delivery of projects, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities, that align with organisational practice.
- Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
- Determining the best means of satisfying requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints i.e. developing solutions.
- Securing the provision of resources needed for projects from internal and/or external provider. Preparing and maintaining schedules for project activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements.
- Developing and agreeing budgets for projects and controlling forecast and actual costs against them.
- Identifying and monitoring portfolio, programme and project risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues that affect projects.
- Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities and issues, and quality requirements).
- Managing reviews at appropriate points during and after projects, which will inform governance of projects by providing evaluations of progress, methodologies and continuing relevance.
- Implementing where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects, updating configuration documents as required.
